Doodle Cowl

Dates: Saturdays 9/27, 10/4, 10/11 Fee: $45

Time: 11:00 - 1:00 Taught by: Elaine Z.

It's Doodle time! You have hopefully noticed that the shop is now carrying Doodle Decks from the Pacific Knit Co. What is doodling? Basically, it's fair isle knitting, although some motifs may have more than two colors in a round. Using your doodle decks, you can choose the motifs that are most appealing to you. A sample cowl (using motifs from the Autumn Doodle Deck) is now in the shop to give you an idea of the finished product. Please note, you do not have to knit the exact same design for your cowl. You can pick and choose which motifs you want. For that matter, if you want to relinquish control, choose your cards at random for a fun-themed cowl.

Materials: Model used Alpaca Yarn Co. Classic Alpaca (DK weight) and US 4 and 5, 16" circular needles. Per the creator of the doodle concept, you must purchase your own doodle deck to take the class. Feel free to use thicker or thinner yarn and appropriate sized needles to make a bigger or smaller cowl.

Homework: Prior to class, please cast on 168 sts (for DK weight) with the smaller needles. Join in the round, being careful not to twist, and work in 1x1 ribbing for 1.5". You will then be all set to begin doodling.

Beginning Crochet

Dates: Tuesdays 9/23, 10/7, 10/21 Time: 11:00 - 1:00

Fee: $45 Taught by: Joanna M.

Learn the basics to crochet: chaining, single crochet and double crochet. You will use what you learn to make something simple like a hat, scarf/cowl, or fingerless mittens.

Materials: 100 grams of worsted weight yarn and an H (US 8 / 5mm) crochet hook. You may want more than 100 grams if you want to make a longer scarf or cowl.

Cuff-Down Socks

Dates: Wednesdays 8/13, 8/27, 9/10
Time: 6:30 - 8:30 Taught by Ben Fee: $45

Learn how to make socks starting at the cuff and ending at the toe. We will go over how to knit in the round on small circumferences, decrease, pick up stitches, and do kitchener stitch. Hand-knit socks keep your feet nice and warm, and they make great gifts!

Materials: 100 grams of sock yarn and US 2 needles. Pattern is written for double points, but is easily converted to doing 2 circulars or magic loop.

Beginning Knitting

Dates: TBD 11:00 - 1:00
Taught by Trish. 4 sessions for $60

Learn the basics of knitting: how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off. Use what you've learned to start a simple project like a scarf, cowl, fingerless mitts, or a pointy hat. Already have a project in mind? Bring it, and we'll see if it works.

Materials: 100 grams of worsted weight yarn and US 8 needles. You may want 200 grams if you want a longer scarf or cowl.
